Alpine Hiker Black
Orders placed before 11:59 PM will ship on September 17
Description
A hiking shoe that stops looking like one.
Some pairs you buy for the weekend and then wear all week. The Alpine Hiker Black is that pair. Textured cowhide, off-white laces for contrast, a Vibram rubber outsole underneath, and a silhouette that goes graphic the moment it sits under a wide black trouser. From the platform to the office to the last train home, it stops looking like a hiking shoe at all.
Two sets of laces come in the box: the off-white pair with black flecks you see here, and a tonal black pair for a quieter look.
Black is the version that reads city. The textured cowhide takes the abrasion, the off-white laces draw the outline, and the whole shoe is more graphic than the Brown. Under wide black trousers the lug sole becomes a shadow line and the hiking reference goes quiet.
It wants trousers with volume. A wide or straight leg with some stack at the hem sits right on the collar; cropped or tapered hems make the shoe look bigger than it is. Sock colour is open with the Black, wear whatever you like.
Construction is the same as every Alpine Hiker. No midsole, so the foot sits directly on the water-dyed cowhide sockliner and the full leather lining. Overbuilt metal eyelets, because the failure point on most hiking silhouettes is the eyelet, not the leather. It went to the Swiss Alps before it came to the city; that trip is Off Trail Days.
The Vibram outsole
A Vibram rubber outsole with the yellow octagon in the sole. The lugs are deep and set wide apart, so wet ground and mud release instead of packing, while the flatter zone under the ball of the foot keeps the stride quiet on pavement. There is no midsole: the sole is what you stand on, with the leather lining and the water-dyed cowhide sockliner above it.

Fit
EU 38 to 47, with UK and US equivalents in the size selector. It fits true to size, so order your usual size; the foot-length guide on this page is there if you are unsure. Expect a substantial shoe on the foot: it is drawn for wide and straight legs with stack at the hem, and a cropped or tapered trouser fights it.
Care
Wipe with a soft, dry cloth after wear. Treat the textured cowhide now and then with a neutral leather cream to nourish and protect the grain. Let it dry naturally away from direct heat, and avoid soaking. The water-dyed cowhide sockliner darkens with wear; that is expected, not damage.
CARE TIPS
Wipe with a soft, damp cloth to remove dirt. For scuffs, use a mild, non-abrasive cleaner suitable for leather. Avoid harsh chemicals, high heat, and traditional leather polishes.

Built With Intent
Every Paper Straight shoe begins with a last, a wooden form shaped to define the silhouette before a single cut is made. From there, patterns are drawn by hand, leather is selected and cut with precision, and each panel is stitched together piece by piece.
Our soles are molded in-house using custom Paper Straight tooling, designed for grip, durability and a profile that holds its shape over time. Metal hardware is set by hand. Insoles are branded and layered for comfort. Every pair passes through dozens of hands before it reaches yours.
There are no shortcuts in this process. From the first sketch to the final lace, each step is guided by one principle, build it once, build it right. This is what it means to be Paper Straight.
